WWE fans spot a KKK rally pictured in the virtual crowd during a match – and now the wrestling circuit vows to ‘ban those involved from future events’

  • It remains unclear how much time the WWE had to edit that broadcast before it aired. A spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment 

A man wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood appeared in a World Wrestling Entertainment broadcast on Monday when a fan uploaded the image of a KKK rally into the virtual audience surrounding the ring.

‘Yo KKK was on the Thunderdome on raw,’ wrote one fan on Twitter. 

Like the NBA, the WWE has attempted to replace spectators during the pandemic with monitors showing virtual fans, many of whom record themselves on their home computers and upload the feed on the internet.

Monday, however, one screen in the virtual fan tableau stood out because it showed the image of a man in a white hood speaking into a microphone. Several WWE fans reported the discovery on social media.

‘Some stupid fan had a video of a KKK member on there (sic) screen during The Main Event,’ wrote another. ‘Stuff like this is gonna make WWE remove the virtual fans and ruin the fun for people who just want to be on the show.’

The image was made more noticeable by the fact that it appeared between the ring ropes in the center of the screen at a seemingly critical moment of the main event.

The WWE released a statement on Tuesday: ‘This abhorrent behavior does not reflect WWE’s values and we have zero tolerance for these unacceptable acts. We are working to ban those involved from future events and per our policies, any inappropriate actions result in the removal from the live stream.’

It remains unclear how much time the WWE had to edit that broadcast before it aired. A WWE spokesperson did not immediately respond to the Daily Mail’s request for comment. 

The WWE calendar has continued amid the pandemic at Orlando’s Amway Center, which is now the setting for the circuit’s most popular series, such as Raw.
