He appeared before a judge and prosecutors to acknowledge the incident Monday.

‘The incident was reprehensible. Nobody justifies,’ Morel’s attorney Rafael Ariza said during an appearance on El Show del Medio Día, a daily afternoon variety show that airs on Colorvisión.

Ariza brought up the possibility of reaching a financial settlement before Felix Portes, Vásquez’s lawyer, appeared on the same show moments after Ariza and rejected the notion, instead making a case for jail time.

Morel joined the Nationals organization as a video intern at the team’s Boca Chica academy in June 2017 after graduating from Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, where he played baseball.

In November 2019, Morel was hired as a full-time academy administrator.

The 2019 World Series champions’ complex has developed many of its top current talent that were signed in the Caribbean island, including superstar outfielder Juan Soto, center fielder Víctor Robles, relief pitcher Wander Flores and second baseman Luis García.

‘The Washington Nationals learned of this horrific incident earlier [Saturday] and immediately terminated the employee,’ Mike Rizzo, the Nationals’ president of baseball operations and general manager, said in a statement to ESPN.

‘We do not tolerate this type of behavior in our organization.’
