Australia all-rounder Cameron White announces retirement from professional cricket

Former Australia captain and all-rounder Cameron White has announced his retirement from all forms of professional cricket. White turned 37 just 3 days ago on August 18.

Cameron White played 4 Tests for Australia, all against India on their 2008 tour. He also featured in 91 ODIs and 47 T20Is, leading the limited-overs team in 7 international games as well.

White scored 146 runs in Tests, 2072 in ODIs and 984 runs in the shortest format with 5, 12 and 1 wicket in the three formats respectively.

“I’ve definitely finished up playing, that’s for sure. I had a one-year playing contract with the Strikers. I only played a handful of games with them last year and in those games I would have needed to play really well to get another deal.

“To be totally honest, I’m pretty content. I think my time is definitely up, I’ve had enough from a playing point of view and I’m ready to focus on coaching,” White told cricket.com.au.

Cameron White also played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and the now-defunct Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League between 2007 and 2012. He was later bagged by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2013 season.

White last played for Australia in an ODI against England 2018 after which he fell out of favour with the selectors due to his inconsistent run.

White though, was a heavyweight in the Australian domestic circuit, having scored over 10,000 runs in first-class cricket with 195 wickets and over 7700 runs in List-A cricket with over 100 scalps.

White won 10 domestic trophies – 6 Sheffield Shields, a domestic one-day crown, 2 wins in the old state-based T20 league and a Big Bash League trophy. He played 240 Twenty20 matches, scoring 5469 runs and 708 wickets at 27.23
