Joey King deleted tweet about Jacob Elordi ‘capping’ after facing heat for the slang term: ‘It’s something I should not have used as a white person’

Joey King deleted a tweet about her ex-boyfriend Jacob Elordi after fans raised concerns about her problematic language.

In Joey’s original tweet, the actress, 21, wrote Jacob was ‘capping’ about not watching their film The Kissing Booth 2.

Several fans were not happy that Joey, a Caucasian woman, had used the term, which is slang for lying.

‘I said, “Jacob watched it. He’s capping,”‘ Joey explained on The Howard Stern Show on Tuesday. ‘Which, “capping” means lying. I heard the term “capping” on like Tik Tok and Twitter and Instagram, through friends, and I was like “I guess this is the new thing.”

'It's something I should not have used as a white person': Joey King deleted a tweet about her ex-boyfriend Jacob Elordi after fans raised concerns about her problematic language

Apparently its not. It’s something I should not have used as a white person. I took it down… two accounts on Twitter called me out for it, that’s why I deleted it.’

Initially, fans speculated she took down the tweet because she angered Jacob over the revelation.

But King insisted that wasn’t the case, and had even ran the tweet by him before posting it.

‘People thought it was because I was like “oh no I shouldn’t have said that about him” so I deleted it because of that,’ she said.

‘The tweet was a jovial thing. It wasn’t to be mean — it really wasn’t. I know the The Kissing Booth fans they are always so curious about that tension of sorts and so I was like I’m just going to, I know they will appreciate it and that’s who it was for.’

‘I did get his permission to tweet it so that was fine,’ Joey continued. ‘He had a good sense of humor about that tweet, for sure.’

Joey’s initial tweet was in response to comments Jacob made during an interview with Variety, where he dismissively admitted he hadn’t seen the ending of The Kissing Booth 2.

‘I haven’t seen it. You’ve seen more than I have. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that, but I haven’t,’ Elordi said.

Jacob and Joey split in 2019 after first meeting on the set of The Kissing Booth.

A sequel to The Kissing Booth 2 has already been filmed.
