Delhi riots – Police charge sheet says 9 people were killed for not saying ‘Jai Shri Ram’

In February this year, a charge sheet filed in the court on behalf of the Delhi Police over the communal violence in North-East Delhi, alleged that some rioters during the Delhi Riots. Had used a WhatsApp group to coordinate with each other and killed nine Muslims for refusing to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. 

The accused belonged to a WhatsApp group called ‘Kattar Hindu Ekta’, which was formed on 25 February to avenge Muslims. The chargesheet states that they used this WhatsApp group to coordinate with each other as well as provide man, weapons and ammunition for the riots. The police has said in the charge sheet that the accused of forming WhatsApp group is still absconding.

Police said that this WhatsApp group named ‘Radical Hindutva Ekta’ was formed on February 25 at 12.49 pm. Initially the group had 125 members, out of these 125, a total of 47 left the group by 8 March. 

The case of killing these nine people

Delhi Police on June 29 filed a charge sheet against Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Kumar Gautam for the alleged murder of nine people – Hamza, Amen, Bhure Ali, Mursalin, Aas Mohammed, Musharraf, Akil Ahmed and Hashim Ali and his elder brother Aamir Khan Was done.  

The police has stated in the charge sheet that during the investigation it has been found that Jatin Sharma, Rishabh Chaudhary, Vivek Panchal, Lokesh Solanki, Pankaj Sharma, Prince, Sumit Chaudhary, Ankit Chaudhary and Himanshu Thakur are among many others in a group of Hindus Known and unknown accused persons were involved. The miscreants were active in the Ganga Vihar and Bhagirathi Vihar areas from the morning of 25 February to the midnight of 26 February, killing nine Muslim persons and injuring several people in Bhagirathi Vihar and other areas.

The final report further stated that it indicated that they were actively involved in attacking other community people belonging to different religions, such as those who killed many people by attacking Muslims during the riots. 

Their approach was such that they used to capture people and find out their religion by asking their name, address and identity i.e. identity card and they used to force them to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’ many times. Those who were not saying ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and they were identified as Muslims, attacked them and threw them in the main dirty stream in Bhagirathi Vihar. The court will hear the matter on July 13.

According to the police report, one of the accused Lokesh Solanki messaged in WhatsApp group on February 25, “This side of Ganga Vihar area is brother Lokesh Solanki, if any Hindu needs help, contact him. We have men, weapons and cartridges. In Bhagirathi Vihar area, I killed two Muslims and threw them into the drain with the help of my colleagues. ”

Police said Hamza was killed by rioters on February 26 in the first case. The incident occurred around 9.15 pm when he was coming from Mustafabad towards Bhagirathi Vihar and was thrown into a drain near the e-block of Bhagirathi Vihar. An FIR was registered in this regard on March 3 at the Gokalpuri police station.  

In the second case, on 25 February, rioters killed Amin and threw the body into a drain near the C-block of Bhagirathi Vihar. In the third case, Bhure Ali was killed on February 26 near the C block of Bhagirathi Vihar. According to the police, Mursalin was murdered on 25 February at around 4:30 pm and her body was thrown into a drain near the Johripuri culvert and her scooter was set on fire.

Police said that on February 25, between seven-and-a-half and seven-and-a-half survivors, rioters killed Aas Mohammad and threw the body into the drain. Around 8 pm that night, rioters cut off electricity and attacked Musharraf’s house in the dark. They were pulled out of the house and killed to death. The body was thrown into the drain. Police said that the rioters killed Akil Ahmed on February 26 at 9:30 pm. The same day Hashim Ali and his elder brother Aamir Khan were killed by rioters at around 9.40 pm.
