Gulabo Sitabo Review: The story of two day dreamers in Lucknow

Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana’s much-awaited film Gulabo Sitabo, which premiered for the first time on the OTT platform, completely reminded Tunde Kababs of Lucknow. This film is like the taste of crooked kebabs. The story of two fukers of Lucknow, Mirza and Banke has been presented by director Sujit Sarkar in a very unique way. The film is a light-hearted comedy, exactly like Premchand’s novels. There is a different kind of cinema which will be liked by someone and may not be liked by anyone at all.

Like Vicky Donor, the story of ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ written by Juhi Chaturvedi’s pen is not shocking, but flat as Piku. This is the story of two sheikh chillies as you say. Gulabo Sitabo is actually the name of two puppets who, like the narrator, describe the character of the characters in their spectacle.

In a mansion ‘Begum Mahal’ in Lucknow, Amitabh Bachchan, ie Mirza, lives with his wife Begum, his servants. There are some tenants in this mansion, one of whom is Banke Rastogi and his family. Mirza always has shortage of money and he is always seeking rent from these tenants. Mirza has a figure of thirty-six with a banquet.

Mirza tries every trick to capture the mansion and evict the tenants, but the court confronts Kacheri. Then the archeology department also comes to capture the mansion for a leader and Banke also brings a builder. In such a situation, who will get the mansion and who will keep on hand, this is the point of view.

Amitabh Bachchan has dominated the film from beginning to end and has portrayed Mirza’s character very beautifully. Amitabh has made Mirza’s character alive by changing his well-known voice and removing the hump. At the same time, Ayushman Khurana, who always plays the character of Lundo from Delhi, is playing a rustic character this time. He has caught the accents and body language of a shopkeeper from Lucknow.

Among the other actors, Brijesh Kala and Vijay Raj have added humor to the film with their performances. But the main attraction of the film is actress Farooq Jaffer in the role of Begum. You saw her in Peepli Live and she has also been a part of Muzaffar Ali’s film Umrao Jaan.

There is no main heroine in the film, but the performance of Srishti Srivastava appearing in several web series in the role of Guddo, the sister of Ayushmann, is quite life-giving. At the same time, his girlfriend Fauzia is seen in the role of Ayushman, Lucknow theater artist Purnima Srivastava, whose role is small but funny.

Shoojit Sircar’s gripping direction is the highlight of the film. How to make a very flat story fun with your scenes. Another special thing is that in this male-oriented film, it has shown very strong female characters. In this way, the story of the film revolves around Amitabh and Ayushman. But these characters are foolish. At the same time, female characters are shown to be sharp and intelligent. Be it Begum, Guddo or Ayushman’s girlfriend Faujiya.

The songs in the film are situational, but Shantanu Moitra has composed a folk song based on the desi look of the film. It is necessary to mention the background music of the film. Which along with connecting scene from one scene to another, gives a boost to the acting of other artists.

Shoojit Sircar has introduced the film in a completely different format, which is different from the usual films – something Satyajit Ray’s film is like a chess player. The film is definitely but of a different type in which there is no laughing matter. There seems to be a cat-and-mouse game between Banke and Mirza. Like Tom and Jerry but this does not happen.

In the middle the speed of the film slows down a bit, but in the end the film takes hold. And the climax is very fun. Overall, based on the point of view and direction of entertainment, the film Gulabo Sitabho is slightly above average, but not the best. But seeing the film, people will definitely smile on their faces.
