Irfan Pathan’s statement on Sammy’s racism remark
There has been a debate about racism since the killing of African-American George Floyd by a white police officer. Apart from the common people, many celebrities of cricket are also telling the incident of racism that happened to them. Recently, Darren Sammy, former captain of the West Indies T20 team, mentioned the incident of racism that happened to himself in the IPL. Now Irfan Pathan and some other players of Hyderabad have got the answer on this.
Sammy wrote on her Instagram page that
“When I used to play for Hyderabad in the IPL, some people used to call me ‘Kalu’, I read recently what Kalu means. Those people used to call me and Perera (Thisara Perera, Sri Lankan cricketer) by this name. I thought it meant a strong horse. But now when I came to know about it, I got very angry. ”
Sammy played a total of 26 matches for Hyderabad in the 2013-14 season. However, he did not say who told them such names or words.
On this statement of Sammy, the statements of Irfan Pathan, Parthiv Patel and Venugopal Rao have come. Pathan said-
“I was part of the team in 2014 with Sammy. I think if this happened, then it must have been discussed. However, I do not know about such things, because there was never any open talk about it. ”
Irfan, who denied information about the incident of racism in the Hyderabad team, admitted that in domestic cricket, there is an incident of racism with players. There is a great need to teach the players there. They said,
“I would like to say that we should teach and convince our players about such things. Because I have seen many such things in domestic cricket. “
He specifically said-
“Players coming from the south have to face this type of racism in the north and west areas. However, I would not like to name anyone.
he adds-
“This often happens in front of the crowd. Any player or person does this to show a star or hero. It is not because he is a racist, rather he wants to be popular by saying something. However, this is where the line crosses. “
Apart from Irfan, Parthiv Patel and Venugopal Rao, who were part of the Sunrisers team along with Sammy, have denied any such incident in their team in the IPL. Parthiv, speaking to The Telegraph, said,
