Landslide hits Assam, 20 people dead in three districts, many injured
Guwahati. About 20 people died in a landslide in Assam on Tuesday 2 June. The deceased mainly belong to three different districts of the Barak Valley region of southern Assam. Many other people have been injured in the incident. Rescuers are reaching the spot.
Of the dead, 7 are from Cachar district, seven from Hailakandi district and 6 from Karimganj district. This area has been raining heavily for the last few days. The northeastern state is already reeling under massive floods, affecting around 3.72 lakh people.

Golpara district is the worst affected, followed by Nagaon and Hojai districts. Six people have died in the floods and 348 villages have been submerged under water. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) says crops have been damaged in about 27,000 hectares.
