According to Valmiki Ramayana, Shri Ram was born in Tretayug in the afternoon on the ninth day of the bright fortnight of Chaitra. According to Hindu calendar, this festival will be celebrated on 2 April, Thursday. Lord Hanuman is also worshiped on this day along with Shriram, Lakshmana and Mother Sita. Shriram is the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This thing has been told in Ramayana as well as in Linga, Narada and Brahmapurana. Chaitra Navratri also ends on the day of Ramnavami. This is the reason that along with Shriram, Mother Durga is also worshiped on this day.

The end of
Chaitra Navratri is the last day of the nine-day Chaitra Navratri festival, Ram Navami. People celebrate this festival as the joy of the birth of Lord Rama, on this day devotees also recite the Ramayana. Regarding this day, it is believed that all types of auspicious tasks can be done on this day without any time. Sri Ram Durbar is worshiped on this Mahaparva. Which also includes Mata Sita, Lakshmana and Hanumanji. A fast is also observed on Ramnavami for family happiness, peace and prosperity.

Ram birth in Valmiki Ramayana

All three are from the 18th canto of Balak in Balak Valmiki Ramayana. In this, information related to the birth of Lord Rama is given. It is said that on the Navami date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month, Goddess Kaushalya gave birth to Sri Ram with divine signs in Punavasu Nakshatra and Cancer Lagna. That is, the day Lord Rama was born, there is a clear mention of the planet’s position on that day. In which it was told that Shri Ram was born in Cancer Ascendant and the position of other planets was like this – 

Sun in Aries (high position).
Venus in Pisces (high position).
Mars in Capricorn (high place).
Saturn in Libra zodiac (high position).
Jupiter in Cancer zodiac (high position).
Moon was moving towards Pushya Nakshatra from Punavasu. 

Fasting and worship method

  • On the day of Ramnavami, after waking up early in the morning, cleaning the house and taking a bath should resolve the fast. The house, puja or temple can be decorated with flag, flag and bandanwar etc. Along with this, Rangoli is also made in the courtyard of the house.
  • In the worship of Ramnavami, water, roli and lapan are offered to all the deities at the first Rama court. After this, the idols are offered intact. Aarti is then done after offering all the fragrant worship material. After this, the story of Shri Ram should be heard. At the time when you hear the fast story, keep the grains of wheat or millet etc. in your hand and after completion of the story, mix more grains in them and donate according to financial ability and respect.
  1. Roli, sandalwood, rice, clean water, flowers, bells and conch along with other worship material can be taken with reverence for worship on Ram Navami.
  2. Offer water to the idols of Lord Rama and Mother Sita and Lakshman in Ramnavami Puja. After this, offer sandalwood and roli.
  3. Then offer rice and flowers and other fragrant worship materials. 
  4. After this, dedicate incense and lamps to God.
  5. Then recite Lord Ram’s Aarti, Ramchalisa or Ram Rakshastotra. 
  6. After this, perform Aarti and offer Naivedya to him.  
  7. After the aarti, sprinkle the holy water on all the people involved in the aarti.
