Vastu Shastra : East Facing House Vastu

East facing houses are the second most preferred homes (first one being north facing ones) by a lot of people.

Having said that, here’s another fact that most people “tend to believe” that all East facing homes are equal when it comes to vastu shastra, but that’s truly not the case.

Here, I must tell you that, as per vastu shastra, East facing houses can range from being very auspicious to very inauspicious ones.

In other – and simpler – words, it’s not the orientation of the house that makes it auspicious or inauspicious; it’s the placement of all the rooms, parts and the entrance of the home that matters; however, a “huge importance” is given to the entrance of the house!

Here, I assume that you’re aware of vastu shastra; if you aren’t, then please head right to the article @ Vastu Shastra – What Is It? And start learning from there. Furthermore, if you’re just beginning to understand vastu shastra and want to apply it in your complete home then my article @ Vastu for Home – Step By Step is the best place you can begin at!

East Facing Houses – What Vastu Says About Them

As I’ve said earlier, auspiciousness (or the lack of it) of a home doesn’t depends upon the direction and hence thinking that all East oriented houses are good and South ones aren’t, is just a “big, bold misconception”.

Furthermore, as with everything else in vastu shastra, there’re rules, guidelines and principles that you need to – and must – follow when it comes to doing vastu for East facing house.

Now, since the placement of the main door is of utmost importance, I’ve dedicated the entire next section of the article to just that, so, read on.

East Facing House Vastu – Main Door/Entrance Placement

East is considered to be a good direction in vastu shastra, however, this in no way means, that one can locate the entrance of a house at any place in East side.

You must locate the entrance at only “allowed” places and never locate in the “prohibited” zones; we’ve discussed this further but first, take a real good look at the image below.

East Facing House Vastu Main Door Placement

As evident from the image above, the East part (length from North-East to South-East) is divided in 9 equal parts.

Each part is called as “pada” or step in vastu shastra.

I’m sure that you’d have noticed that only “pada” numbered 5 is in green color and the pada’s above it i.e. pada number 1, 2 are in orange color; 3, 4, 6 and 7 are in yellow color whereas the remaining padas 8 and 9 are in red color.

Here’s what all this means

  1. The 5th pada (green one) is the most auspicious one to locate a main door for East facing home. It’s the location of Sun (the God of fame) and blesses the residents with a lot of name, fame and respect in the society.
  2. The pada’s 3 and 4 are the ones that you can use (for entrance/main door) if pada 5 alone is small. But make sure to include pada 5 along with padas 4 or 3.
  3. Padas 1 and 2 are the prohibited ones; however, if you happen to locate the entrance of your home here then there’s nothing to fret about as it won’t bring any harm; however, it may not give any benefits at the same time too. Also, if you’re planning to use pada 1 for main door, then make sure to leave at least 6 inches (1/2 feet) of space from NE wall; i.e the main door shouldn’t touch NE corner.
  4. The pada’s 6 and 7 are the ones that can be used if there’s no option to place the main door towards padas 4, 3, 2 or 1. However, it’s always better to include pada 5 in this arrangement.
  5. Padas 8 and 9 are the “prohibited” ones and must never be used to locate the entrance of a house and that’s because it’s the place from where illness enters the home. If you happen to  have an entrance from this part of the home

Having understood vastu rules and guidelines for east facing house entrance, you’re now ready to know what to do and avoid in an east facing home, so just read on.
