Complaint against Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa for attending wedding during pandemic

complaint has been filed against Karnataka Cheif Minister BS Yediyurappa and others for attending a wedding ceremony despite strict advisories against attending large gatherings as a precaution against the spread of novel coronavirus – a deadly virus which has claimed the lives of over 6,500 people across the globe.
The complainant, an RTI activist, has written to the governor seeking action against the CM, ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs for “their grave negligence, violation of government’s order/directions and mockery of the state legislature and its orders.”
CM Yediyurappa and several state legislators had attended the wedding ceremony of the daughter of MLC Mahantesh Kavatahimath in Belgavi on March 15.
Bengaluru-resident T Narasimha Murthy, in his complaint, urged Governor Vajubhai Vala to take a note of the ‘violation’ and take “strict necessary legal actions against all those who are part of such gathering and may kindly take actions to protect the mass from coronavirus”.
The Centre has advised states to invoke the British-era Epidemic Act, 1897, which allows the government to put in measures to control the spread of a particular disease. The act also allows the state to punish those who are contributing in the spread of the disease.
As of Tuesday 5 pm, the total number of positive cases in India has reached 132, with at least 10 cases in Karnataka, including the first case of Covid-19 casualty in India.
