Ranchi: Gang rape case of law student; Court’s verdict after 97 days, life imprisonment for all 11 convicts

Ranchi: The court on Monday sentenced all 11 convicts to life imprisonment in the case of gang rape of a student of law university located in Kanke police station area of Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand. All have been fined 50-50 thousand rupees. This amount has been ordered to be given to the victim. One of the accused in the case is a minor, whose trial is going on in the Juvenile Justice Board. The incident of rape took place on 26 November last year. The culprits have been sentenced 97 days later.
The convicts include Kuldeep Oraon, Sunil Oraon, Sandeep Oraon, Ajay Munda, Rajan Oraon, Naveen Oraon, Basant Kachhap, Ravi Oraon, Rohit Oraon, Sunil Munda and Rishi Tirkey. The court of Chief Justice Navneet Kumar held the accused guilty of kidnapping, gang rape and criminal conspiracy. After being convicted, a March 2 date was set for a hearing at the point of conviction.
He was convicted on 26 February.
The victim lodged a case at Kanke police station on November 27, the next day of the incident. The court, while hearing the case, convicted the accused in one month and 20 days. The charge was framed in the court on 6 January this year. The testimony took place from 7 to 12 January. Every day statements of witnesses were recorded in the court till late evening. A total of 21 people gave statements. From 13 to 24 February, there was a debate on both sides. The accused then convicted the accused on 26 February.
The victim had stated in the FIR that late in the evening of 26 November she was sitting with her friend at Sangrampur bus stop. Then two bike riders and seven young men sitting in the car arrived there. The bike riders first beat up, then forcibly picked them up from the bike. Near a nursing home, the petrol of his bike ran out, then put him in the car coming from behind and took him to a brick-kiln, all raped there. In Some time, three more youths from the schoolgirl’s friend’s scooty arrived there.
Police arrested 16 youths
A total of 16 youths were caught by the police on 27 November, but the culprits involved in the incident themselves confessed that 12 people were involved in the incident. Forensic investigation reports also confirmed the involvement of 12 people.
One of the convict raped the victim twice
The police had sent a forensic lab to match the sperm found on the robes of the blood samples of all the 12 accused. Blood samples of eight accused were found positive. The victim had told the police that she was raped twice by an accused. The way the accused held her, they could have killed her if she resisted even a little bit.
