Facility / Air New Zealand’s economy sleeping pod, built after testing over 200 customers in 3 years

Auckland. Air New Zealand has created economy class sleeping pods for those who spend less money in air travel. It is named SkyNest. On Wednesday, the airline applied for a patent and trademark. The pods are designed after testing over 200 customers in Auckland’s hangar. It took three years. According to the Air New Zealand announcement, the aircraft’s economy cabin will have six full-length-flat sleep pods. However, the actual status of SkyNest within the aircraft is yet to be confirmed.

Each pod is 200 cm (6.5 ft) long and 58 cm (1.8 ft) wide. Inside it will be a pillow, bedsheet, blanket, air plugs and a curtain for privacy. Apart from this, there is a facility of light and USB port for reading books. The airline can service SkyNest from October this year. The service will start on one of the world’s longest flights (17 hours 40 minutes between Auckland to New York).

It was a challenge to remove passenger fatigue

Air New Zealand Marketing Chief and Customer Officer Mike Tod said, “It has been arranged to relieve fatigue on the faces of long-haul economy class passengers. SkyNest will provide immediate relief to such passengers and will also overcome the challenge of fatigue. It is a pleasant initiative for long-haul passengers. “The airline had a similar start in 2011 as the Skycoach launch. It was the first airline to take the first step in making the economy class comfortable. The airline from SkyNest appears to prove this commitment. Passengers traveling in this were allowed to give their seats a bed size.

Skynest charge not yet decided

An Air New Zealand employee told the media, a formal application for Skyneskut is not yet in process. Although we have designed the SkyNest to cater to all the needs of the passengers, but for this, the cost and maintenance cost has to be estimated in terms of how much money the passengers will have to spend. Only then will Skynest’s commercial service begin.

Experience of flying in the future is special for us

When asked about the increased demand for an aircraft with only 6 pods, the airline’s general manager Nikki Goodman says, “We look at the flight experience in the future, where an economy-class passenger on long-haul flights is in its economy.” In addition to the seat will be able to book SkyNest. In this, they will spend some comfortable time and reach their destination. “
