Historic moment for Indian sports: PM Narendra Modi inaugurates Khelo India University Games open
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first-ever Khelo India University University Games in Odisha. PM Modi addressed the opening ceremony of the games via video-conferencing and called it a historic moment for Indian sports. The Khelo India Games are being organised by the Central government in partnership with the Odisha government.
It is a unique initiative by the government to transform the sporting culture in the country by providing the platform to everyone. The government plans to identify and pick talent from grass-root level and provide them with a chance to perform at the highest level. PM Modi while addressing the gathering at the opening ceremony in Cuttack, said that the games will play a significant role in improving the future of sports in India.
“It’s a historic moment for Indian sports that first-ever Khelo India University Games is getting launched today. The aim should be to win 200 medals but also to improve on an individual level. You are not just competing with others but yourself. Remember all the efforts you put here will help you achieve your and the country’s dreams,” said PM Modi.
“It’s not just the start of a tournament but the start of next revolution in Indian sports. Khelo India School Games did great work in bringing up talent from the root-level and the University Games is the next step towards the right direction,” he further highlighted the importance of these games for India.
