The BCCI has shared a mesmerising aerial view of the 1 lakh 10 thousand seated Motera stadium in Gujarat ahead of the much-anticipated visit of USA president Donald Trump.

  • The BCCI shared an aerial view of Gujarat’s Motera Stadium on Tuesday.
  • The venue will have a seating capacity of 1 lakh 10 thousand.
  • United States president Donald Triump will visit the venue on February 24.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to inaugurate the ‘world’s largest cricket stadium’ as the Motera Stadium in Gujarat nears its completion. The venue, also known as the Sardar Patel Stadium, will have a seating capacity of 1 lakh 10, thousand which will make it the biggest cricketing venue across the world, beating Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) which boasts a seating capacity of just over 1 lakh people.

Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani had paid a visit to the stadium on Monday to see the security arrangements which have been put into place for the visit of American president Donald Trump.

The BCCI, ahead of Trump’s visit to the stadium, shared an aerial view of the venue.

“#MoteraStadium  Ahmedabad, India Seating capacity of more than 1,10,000 World’s largest #Cricket stadium,” the BCCI tweeted.

It has also been learnt that the stadium will have three different types of pitches – bouncy, spin-friendly, and a mix of both – to aid all sort of gameplays at the venue. A total of 11 pitches are reportedly being made by the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) at the venue.

“Some pitches will be prepared with red soil, while some will be with black soil and some may have a mix of both. There will be bouncy as well as spin-friendly pitches along with sporting pitches based on the requirement,” Dhanraj Nathwani, vice president of GCA had told the Indian Express a few months ago.

The drainage facility at the venue will also be on par with most world-class venues and will reportedly be able to flush out rainwater in just half an hour.

“We have planned a sub-surface drainage system in such a way that the entire ground will dry within 30 minutes after the rain stops. It will help us reduce the chances of cancellation of matches due to rain,” Nathwani added.

The BCCI has already given a go-ahead to hosting a day-night Test against Australia at the venue in January-February 2021. Trump, meanwhile, will pay a visit to the venue on February 24, 2020.
