Engine of GoAir flight catches fire; passengers, crew safe
The suspected FOD resulted in a small fire that has been doused, ANI reported.
Ahmedabad: The right engine of Ahmedabad to Bengaluru GoAir flight was suspected to have suffered from a foreign object damage (FOD) during the takeoff roll on Tuesday.
The suspected FOD resulted in a small fire that has been doused and no emergency evacuation was deemed necessary, said GoAir spokesperson in a statement.
The aircraft was later towed off the runway after which passengers and crew were deplaned safely and provided assistance. The flight will now depart at 1.30 pm from Bengaluru airport.
“The passengers and crew on GoAir flight G8 802 from Ahmedabad to Bengaluru have been deplaned safely.
An alternate aircraft has been arranged to accommodate the passengers. The revised departure from Ahmedabad is scheduled at 13:30 local time due to Bengaluru runway closure till 15:00 hours,” said the airline’s spokesperson.
The airline said that the safety of its passengers and crew is of paramount importance while expressing regret over the incident.
“All the passengers are being provided assistance and refreshments. At GoAir, safety of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance and the airline sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused to its passengers,” read the statement.
Last month, a Bengaluru-Phuket flight with 173 passengers on board suffered a mid-air technical glitch following which it made a precautionary turn back and returned to Bengaluru airport and landed safely. The airlines had expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to its passengers.
