Uddhav government’s big decision: From 26 January all schools in Maharashtra will chant of the Preamble of the Constitution after prayer
- The text of the Preamble to the Constitution will be compulsory in all primary and secondary schools in Maharashtra after morning prayer from 26 January.
- Along with this, a bill can be brought on making Marathi language education compulsory in all schools.
- The decision has come at a time when large-scale protests are taking place against CAA-NRC.
Mumbai: The text of the Preamble of the Constitution will be compulsorily followed by morning prayer in all schools from 26 January in Maharashtra. Minister of State Varsha Gaikwad gave this information on Tuesday. A circular of the state government states that the text of the preamble is part of the “Sovereignty of the Constitution, Welfare of All” campaign.
Congress MLA and Minister Varsha Gaikwad said, “Students will read the Preamble of the Constitution so that they know its importance. This is a very old proposal of the government, but we will implement it from 26 January. “In this regard, the government issued a circular in February 2013. Congress in the state at that time. There was an NCP government. The minister said that the students would recite the preface every morning after morning prayer.
The decision to make the text of the Preamble of the Constitution mandatory came at a time when large-scale protests are taking place against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and a possible National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Marathi reading will be compulsory in all schools in Maharashtra
With this, Maharashtra’s Industries Minister Subhash Desai said on Tuesday that the state government will bring a bill in the next assembly session in which the teaching of Marathi language will be compulsory in all schools of the state, irrespective of the medium.
Shiv Sena leader Desai said that a draft of the bill is being prepared in this regard. The next session of the assembly will be held in February.
“The government will enact a law in the assembly session next month which will mandate the teaching of Marathi language from first to tenth grade in all schools irrespective of the medium of teaching,” Desai said in a statement.
He said that there are 25 thousand English medium schools in the state and their number is increasing. Marathi is not taught in these schools or is kept as an optional subject.
He said, “Marathi language will be compulsory in all such schools.”
