income tax raids at Lalit Hotels promoter Jyotsna Suri and associates , tax evasion case
The Income Tax Department has searched eight premises related to Bharat Hotels Group Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Jyotsna Suri, some of his associates and Cargo Motors promoter Jayant Nanda in connection with the investigation into the tax evasion case. These premises are located in and around Delhi.
Officials said on Monday that the searches were launched on Sunday. Official sources said that the transactions of these groups on which the department was eyeing, are interlinked. Bharat Hotels Group owns Lalit Hotels. The group currently operates more than a dozen luxury hotels.
Jyotsna Suri has been associated with the Bharat Hotels Group since 1989 and became the CMD of the group in 2006 after the death of her husband Lalit Suri. She has also been the chairperson of FICCI. Delhi-based Lalit Hotel is a unit of the Bharat Hotels Group. At the same time, Cargo Motors is the largest dealer of Tata Motors in the country.
According to information available on the company’s portal, Yashpal Nanda was founded in 1959. It currently operates in Delhi, Gujarat, Punjab and Rajasthan and has 73 sales centers and 30 workshops in these states. The department was informed that tax evasion was being done in several ways from the group. To investigate this, a team was raided on the bases together as part of an operation on their behalf.
During the raid, the team has taken several files and other documents in its possession, the files and other things captured will be investigated, after which it will be ascertained how much tax has been stolen. At present, the work of investigation of the captured papers is being done by the team. After this, it will be known that how much tax tax has been stolen from the group.
